Plastic pollution has become a major problem in these days, as per Ministry of Environment, India generates 16000 ton/day out of which only 9000 ton/day being recycled and the remaining pollutes the soil, clogs drains, pollutes water and kill the animals with its indigestive nature. Also, the improper handling of plastic waste in open spaces and road margins give rise to disease in humans as well as not good for earth.
Team under UBA IITR visited the adopted village Beladi-Salhapur for a no- plastic drive in the village.
The teams went door-to-door, collecting single-use plastic bags and distributing cloth bags in their place. Villagers were explained the adverse effects of using plastic on the environment and water bodies. Also, village and household surveys were done in each of the villages to understand ground level problems for future initiatives better.
A total of 75 households in all were surveyed, and 120 cloth bags were distributed.
